1. View posts and stories via Instagram Web
They view feed posts, whether photos or videos ( Reels or Lives ), and stories are the first and most basic function Instagram Web provides. "Ah, but which browsers work best with Instagram?" — you may wonder. Practically all the most popular.
As the company itself reports on its website, to have the best experience possible, it is recommended to use the latest version of any of these browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. From a computer/laptop browser or even a smartphone, just access instagram.com.
2. Edit profile and settings
The functions of editing the profile and making account settings allow changes to the profile's look (name, bio, photo, etc.) and the technical part of the account (change password, change access email, change privacy, etc.).
To edit the profile, click on the icon with the profile picture and then select the "Edit profile" option. To access the settings, click on the icon with the profile picture and then on "Settings."
It doesn't matter if you click to edit or to see the profile's settings, as both functions will always show the menu on the left side with all the configurable items.
3. Publish a post via Instagram Web
At the time, publishing any content on Instagram was exclusive to the mobile app. So, to use the tool, it was necessary to have a smartphone. This lasted until October 2021 when, finally, Instagram users could use the step-by-step below to publish a post:
- in the top menu bar, click on the icon with a "+" sign (Create new publication);
- drag the photos and videos you want to publish or click on the button to "Select from computer";
- cut the media in proportions 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 or leave it in the original format (optional);
- choose a filter or make brightness adjustments (optional);
- write the caption of the post (optional);
- make comments, views, and location settings (optional);
- Click "Share."
One caveat: unlike the Instagram app, in the web version, it is impossible to save posts as drafts, something that in the app is done by clicking the back arrow several times (←) until the "Save draft" button appears.

4. Search for users, locations, and hashtags
The Instagram Web search bar has the same functions as the app: searching for users, locations, and hashtags. There is no secret to using it. Just access the search engine at the top of the page and type the term you want to find one of these three "answers."
After typing, do not enter; wait for the result options to appear, and then click on some of them.
5. Send messages through Instagram Direct
Instagram's Direct is a powerful tool for relating to a profile's audience, mainly because it allows longer conversations with texts, videos, images (static or GIF), and audio.
To send a DM, access the second icon (paper plane) in the top menu bar of Instagram Web. Choose someone already in your contact list (left side) to send a private message, or click on the "Send message" button.
6. Receive notifications in your browser
Push notifications are the feature's name that sends up a pop-up notifying you that there have been interactions with your profile or the first posts of new users you follow. The way to get to this menu is: to click on the icon with the profile picture (top menu) > Settings > Push notifications.
In total, these 13 push notification options are offered:
- likes;
- comments;
- comment likes;
- likes and comments on photos with you;
- requests to follow accepted;
- Instagram direct requests;
- new messages on Instagram direct;
- reminders, unseen notifications;
- first publications and stories of a followed profile;
- video view count;
- support requests;
- live videos;
- video chats.
7. Switch account via Instagram Web
Do you manage more than one profile and want to avoid logging out of one profile to access the other? No problem, as you can log in to multiple profiles and switch between them. Step by step is quick:
- Click on the profile icon on the far right side;
- select the "Switch account" option;
- enter access data to another account or choose a profile that has already been logged in.
