Do you post more videos or photos on your Instagram? The news, in progress since July, is that all videos will be published as Reels . If you heard about the tests with the full-screen feed , you already knew that the company is dedicated to prioritizing the audiovisual format, instead of focusing on static images, as was the app's main idea.
Faced with so many changes to Instagram in 2023 , we understand the distress of social media and professionals who share their work through the app. Even Kim Kardashian revealed her discontent with the network. What we can do is adapt and reinvent ourselves.
Want to prepare for what's to come? Understand now what Instagram will look like when all videos become Reels!
What is Reels and how does it work?
Reels is a replacement publication format for the old Instagram Stories Scenes , focusing on short videos and dynamic effects. With TikTok 's rapid growth in recent years, Reels was designed to compete with this unique fast-paced video platform.
Its main features involve videos published with:
- minimum duration of 15 seconds;
- music insertion from Instagram Music;
- use of Reels audio from other profiles;
- import of audio from videos present in the gallery of the user's cell phone;
- special effects, stickers, text and hand drawing.
In addition to these features, the biggest difference is the algorithm that Instagram created specifically for delivering Reels, inspired by TikTok. Although they are different companies, you can use TikTok content ideas on Reels and vice versa.
What changes when having videos published as Reels?
Before this update, it was possible to post videos on feed, IGTV and Reels – each format with its specificity and size limitation. With the end of IGTV , video content was only on the feed posts tab and on Reels.
Videos of up to 15 minutes are automatically published as Reels.
If the account is private, only your followers will be able to see your Reels, but they will be able to remix your videos if the function is enabled by you.
Remixing can be disabled in the configuration of each video that is published as Reels, preventing other people from duetting with it – this goes for public and private profiles.
In videos from public accounts (professional or creator), the user can use the original audio from that post to create a new Reels.
What other Reels news has been announced?
In addition to the above news, Adam Mosseri announced that new features have been implemented to make it easier and more fun to collaborate, create and share moments. Are they:
- Merge Reels (yours with another user's);
- Reels models with predefined scripts;
- improvements to the remix feature (using photos with videos);
use the rear and front camera at the same time.
As usual, new features are being released little by little and not all Instagram users have all the new features in their accounts. It remains to wait.
Turning all videos posted as Reels on Instagram is not as daunting as it might seem to some. For those who were already following the intense flow of news from the company, they know that the format is here to stay and from now on, Instagram aims to improve the user experience with this publication format every day.
